Without CSE degree can I get job in software developer field in 2024? Yes, it is possible to get a job in the software development field without a computer science degree. Though it sounds easy, it is not that easy since the job market has become competitive because many people change their career paths and enter the IT field for high-paying jobs. To get a job in the software development field, first of all, you need to understand in which sector you want to work and see your future. According to your chosen software sector, you will be able to break down your plans and track your progress. This will make your pathway to a job really easy and strategic. You can follow the steps below to get a job in this field: Step 1: Choose the sector you want to work in There are various options available in the software development field, such as application developer, web developer, and automation tester positions. There are different languages for each of these positions. I suggest that you learn a language that has opportunities and popularity in the market you want to work in. For example, you can learn the MERN Stack to become a beginner Full Stack Developer or learn React and Ruby to become a Full Stack Developer. Step 2: Pursue professional training Before stepping into the industry, you need to get professional training to prepare yourself to face interviews and secure a job among your competitors. For such training, you can choose multiple options such as coding bootcamps, online paid courses, free resources, YouTube video series, etc. A well-structured learning process will lead to a bright future among programmers because it will ensure your concepts are clear about the aspects of programming. You can also look for companies that provide training and then offer a job in exchange for a long-term contract with small payments at the beginning. Step 3: Learn about version control systems As a software developer, you must have a complete understanding of version control systems such as Git and GitHub. You need to store all your projects and raw codes in your version control profile, such as your GitHub profile. You can participate in open-source projects to build an impression of your skills. Sometimes, open-source projects lead a developer to build high contacts and get a dream job due to their skill demonstrations. Step 4: Build reusable and unique projects Nowadays, there are many developers in the market waiting with their resumes to get an interview call and prove their skill. If you wait in that queue, it may take longer than you thought to get a job and prove yourself. That is why you need to build projects that are unique and reusable with new ideas. Stop making traditional projects by watching videos only, such as to-do lists or bookstores. Try to make npm packages, reusable sliders, unique functionality code packages, etc. Step 5: Social network visibility (Not Enough) In this era, we all have social network visibility, but this is not enough to get you a job. As a programmer, you need to build professional connections and think like a professional. First of all, you must have a LinkedIn account where you will look for people and send requests to those who are in the same profession as you. Sometimes you need to write a small journey about how you built a package and the challenges you faced during building it. Sometimes you can ask for help from other professionals to build communication. You will showcase your projects in your profile so that employers get attracted to your profile and reach out to you. You need to share knowledge about the languages you are working with. You may share work-related memes. You will join different communities to push your boundaries. Step 6: First Landmark of Job In 2024, most companies ask for some sort of experience. To get that experience, when you are finished with steps 1 – 5, start looking for internships, volunteer projects, or junior developer positions. It will be easier to get an internship position rather than a junior developer position. You should start with an unpaid or paid internship or volunteer position to get yourself that experience. Set up a “Hello Microverse” project – How To Set inters Configuration – Microverse – Module 1 – Week 1 – Day 2

Set up a “Hello Microverse” project – How To Set inters Configuration – Microverse – Module 1 – Week 1 – Day 2 Today we will talk about the Microverse module 1 week 1 day 2 simple GitHub linters setup simple project. Microverse has an industrial educational environment so that all of the students can learn the process of how the programming industry works. So, let’s begin with our first simple project. I will break down the steps for this project from scratch to the end. Checkout the steps below to finish your project efficiently: Step 1 Github Repository Setup:  First of all, you need to create a repo (GH repository) in your GitHub account. You can click  on the Create button as shown in the picture below: Use the Microverse readme template from the repo template options after selecting an owner for the repo. Step 2 Clone the Repo to Local Machine:   There are different options available for cloning the repo in your local machine such as: You can you https link for cloning the repo. Just copy the link and open your terminal. You can do the same with SSH if, in your GitHub profile, you have setup SSH already instead of using https you can use SSH in your terminal after writing git clone SSH. If both these way feels complicated for you then you can also use GitHub Desktop Software that is really easy to operate but it is still recommended to get used to the terminals and code bases as a developer. Step 3 Follow GitHub Flow and Setup Linters Config: During the linters setup, you need to follow the GitHub flow in a professional way. GitHub flow is astructure to manage your repository in a professional manner. According to GitHub flow you need to add all stable codes in the main or master branch of your repo such as linters and the rest of the code which will be continuously updated due to the demand of workflow will be stored in a sub-branch of the repo. First of all, open the GitHub repo link that is given to the project repo to setup linters then select the linters configuration you want to setup for your project. There are different linter files available for different projects according the uses of programming languages. In this project we will only use html-css file since we are just going to use html-css for this project. Link for the Html-Css repo : https://github.com/microverseinc/linters-config/tree/master/html-css Go to you VS code create a folder .github/workflows then inside these folders create a file call linters.yml  copy the code from this link and paste it inside the linters.yml file: https://github.com/microverseinc/linters-config/blob/master/html-css/.github/workflows/linters.yml Create 2 files in the root level called .hintrc and stylelintrc.json copy the code from below link and paste in according to the files:  .hintrc .stylelintrc.json After completing pasting the code in the files from the top bar of your VS code click on terminal and open a new terminal. Then run the commands below one by one  but before that you need to add a .gitignore file and write node_modules in the file: Webhint A customizable linting tool that helps you improve your site’s accessibility, speed, cross-browser compatibility, and more by checking your code for best practices and common errors. NOTE: If you are running on Windows, you need to initialize npm to create package.json file. Run npm init -y Run npm install –save-dev hint@7.x Copy .hintrc to the root directory of your project. Do not make any changes in config files – they represent style guidelines that you share with your team – which is a group of all Microverse students. If you think that change is necessary – open a Pull Request in this repository and let your code reviewer know about it. Run npx hint . Fix validation errors. Stylelint A mighty, modern linter that helps you avoid errors and enforce conventions in your styles. Run npm install –save-dev stylelint@13.x stylelint-scss@3.x stylelint-config-standard@21.x stylelint-csstree-validator@1.x Copy .stylelintrc.json to the root directory of your project. Do not make any changes in config files – they represent style guidelines that you share with your team – which is a group of all Microverse students. If you think that change is necessary – open a Pull Request in this repository and let your code reviewer know about it. Run npx stylelint “**/*.{css,scss}” on the root of your directory of your project. Fix linter errors. Commit the changes with proper description and then push it to the main or master branch. Step 4 Add HTML-CSS:   Now create a new branch and checkout the branch. Add index.html and style.css file. Link CSS file in HTML properly. Add some basic code in your HTML file such as : <!DOCTYPE html> <html lang=”en”>   <head>     <meta charset=”UTF-8″ />     <meta http-equiv=”X-UA-Compatible” content=”IE=edge” />     <meta name=”viewport” content=”width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0″ />     <title>Document</title>     <link rel=”stylesheet” href=”style.css” />   </head>   <body>     <h1>Hello Microverse</h1>   </body> </html> CSS: h1 {   color: green; } You can’t leave the files empty otherwise linters will show  error in stylelint in GitHub. Commit changes and push it to GitHub in the new branch. Create pull request in your repo in GitHub and wait for linter results. If everything is green you are good to submit. From my experience, I can say the best way to become a software developer is self-teaching and testing things out by following a simple roadmap. Here are 5 steps to become a software developer without a CSE degree: What is the software development industry or developer’s responsibility? Before you set your goals to make a career change or decide to start the journey to become a software developer, you must understand the software development industry and the responsibilities of a developer. In the software development industry, there are different segments available such as mobile apps, web applications, and desktop applications, etc. The responsibilities of a software engineer include designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software. Since the world’s technology is changing quite fast nowadays, a software engineer must keep learning new things to keep pace with the industry and survive in it. Step 1: Set a roadmap to learn programming languages There are various free resources available to learn the basics to advanced software engineering. To become a self-taught software developer, you must be prepared to read a lot of documentation and have patience to try all the steps of documentation practically. First of all, you need to decide on a programming language you want to learn from basics to advance because there are a lot of programming languages available and most of them are multi-purpose languages. Here is a list of some programming languages you can learn as a web developer: HTML  As a developer, you must start learning coding from HTML. It is a markup language that is the basis of website construction. It tells browsers how to render web pages. Although it is not programming in the traditional sense. You can find a whole HTML free course on W3School. CSS  is the language that is used to style a web application. CSS describes how elements should be displayed. JavaScript  is a common web development language for its simplicity, which developers use to dynamically create web pages. It is also one of the world’s oldest coding languages. While there are many pros and cons of using JavaScript, it has become one of the most popular languages today due to its help in streamlining the development process. Programmers can find various options for frameworks (like jQuery) that improve how they create animations and graphics and how they connect data models. Python  A versatile, high-level programming language, Python has quickly gained traction across industries due to its minimal syntax, readability, focus on natural language processing, and ability to handle object-oriented and functional programming. Python is best suited for data analysis and manipulation, machine learning, designing desktop applications, server-side web development (where it is nearly synonymous with Django), and AI. PHP  The first release of PHP occurred in 1995, and the language has been growing in popularity lately due to its simplicity and scalability. PHP is mostly used for web development (both back-end and front-end) but also powers online advertising, game development, database management systems, and hosting services. Laravel is a PHP web framework. Ruby on Rails  David Heinemeier Hansson created Ruby on Rails in 2004, and it’s considered a highly popular, complex, and object-oriented language. It also has features like concurrency and metaprogramming. This open-source framework allows people to build powerful web applications with minimal effort. Many industries use Ruby, including e-commerce, education, government, and social media. There are many more languages for development; these are only popular languages of the current market. If you want to be a full-stack developer, then I would suggest learning JavaScript. Because JavaScript has its own ecosystem for the front-end and backend such as for the front-end JavaScript has a library of React and as for the backend Node JS is a JavaScript V8 runtime environment engine. If you want to start with something easier to learn, you can start with Python. Step 2: Understand data structure and algorithm with best practices You should learn the programming language by using best practices of that language. It is good to follow the best practices in your codes for the future when you are going to work on projects with others you will be able to understand their code and they will be able to understand and modify your code. You should also always try to solve problems using pseudocode method. Understanding data structure and algorithms is a very crucial part of a software engineer’s responsibility. Because when a software developer develops a system, sometimes it is required to connect with different databases or you need to create a database for the system. For the case of algorithms, you need to understand to build a system from scratch. In mathematics and computer science, an algorithm is a finite sequence of mathematically rigorous instructions, typically used to solve a class of specific problems or to perform a computation. Algorithms are used as specifications for performing calculations and data processing. Step 3: Version Control Git / Github Version control software is used to track revisions, solve integration conflicts in code, and manage different artifacts involved in software projects. You should properly learn about version control things such as how to use and install git on your local machine, how to use GitHub or GitLab, how to commit or push code to the repository, etc. Store all your projects on GitHub or GitLab so that they are accessible to clients or companies. Build a portfolio website based on GitHub pages or paid hosting domain service. GitHub pages are free to launch a portfolio website. In your portfolio, you must show your skillset list, relevant experience, etc. Step 4: Practice coding challenges Besides your practice project, every software engineer must practice a lot of coding challenges to prepare for interviews.
